Recently I received as a gift The Tucson Neon Sign Coloring Book, illustrated by Danny Martin, a local Tucson artist! Of the 30 pages in his coloring book for adults, I had a cache at 24 of them. The four in this area I didn't know about, until I saw them in the coloring book.
The fourth sign, for Casa Linda Motel, was recently taken down for restoration, and will eventually be placed back in its original spot, in front of the boarded up buildings at 232 W. Flores St.
About the coloring book artist: Danny Martin has received both his bachelors and masters in printmaking. Not only is he a freelance artist but also works as an adjunct professor at Pima Community College, West Campus teaching screen-printing as well as comics and sequential art. The primary subject matter of his personal work is “youth culture” meaning zines, stickers, mail art, show flyers, street art, and tradition. Check out Danny Martin's website at www.dannymartinart.com.
