Welcome to the Fichtepark in Dresden-Plauen!

After a short construction period, the park was officially opened on September 26, 1891 as the "Westendpark". It quickly became very popular with the people and soon other attractions could be added.
In 1937 the park was renamed “Fichtepark” on the occasion of the 175th birthday of the philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte. Over time, the park has undergone several redesigns. Since the 1990s, attempts have been made to restore the original condition as far as possible.

LesHommesSauvages wish you lots of fun discovering this park!

Der Fichteturm

In 1896, five years after the park opened, the tower was inaugurated as the first Saxon of the numerous Bismarck towers that were built at the time. 1954, on the 140th anniversary of Johann Gottlieb Fichte's death, the Bismarck tower was renamed to Fiche tower.
153 steps lead up to the platform, from which you can see the entire Elbe Valley from Radebeul to Saxon Switzerland. The view is worth it! (Tower opening times: March to December, Thu to Sun 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., admission 0,50€ per person)

Kunst im Park

These two sculptures were added to the park later - and originally there were nine works of art.
In 1920 the City Council of Dresden decided to support artists in need with commissions after the First World War. This resulted in eight sculptures, each symbolizing a temperament; also a large vase. In the Fichtepark, a large, slightly lower-lying roundabout with stairs on the sides was created around which the works were placed. The vase was in the middle. The complex was teared down in the 1930s, today only the figures "Trübsinn" (goolm) by Paul Polte (child with turtle) and "Frohsinn" (joy) by Franz Weschke (child with dolphin) are preserved.

Der Wasserlauf

A spacious pond system was already included in the original park plans by Carl Hampel, but was not realised for cost reasons. In 1905, 14 years after the park opened, the project was implemented on a much smaller scale with an artificial brook and pond.
After the facility could no longer be put into operation due to dilapidation, the renovation took place by May 2018. Now the water splashes down here again in summer.

Spielplatz Westendstraße

Plauen developed from an industrial village into a wealthy suburb in the 19th century. In 1872, with the founding of the “Dresdner Westend” stock corporation, development began, primarily with villas. The shareholders included Erwin and Theodor Bienert. Roads were laid out, building sites developed and resold, and an area for a green space made available. The building company provided the land to the Plauen community free of charge. Today the name of Westendstrasse still bears witness to the early years of this district. At the upper end of this, opposite the Fichtepark, there has been a large children's playground since the beginning of the 20th century, which was renewed in 2020.

Die Parkschänke

The park got well-liked by the residents and so the Parkschänke (park tavern) was built in 1895 on the corner of Großmannstrasse and Bernhardstrasse, which quickly became a popular excursion destination. The building was splendidly designed with many decorative elements such as half-timbering, oriels and turrets. Unfortunately, it had to be demolished down to the foundation walls after around 20 years due to severe worm damage. A much simpler new residential building was then built on top of this - the house that still stands here today. If you look closely, you can see the fence that still exists today on the old picture of the park tavern. The entrance on the corner is now closed by a small wall.
