Geocache Description:

Barstow, California population 24,600, elev. 2,178' was incorporated on 9/30/1947. The city had names such as Camp Sugarloaf, Grapevine, and Waterman Junction before being named after William Barstow Strong, owner of the Santa Fe Railroad.

This container (more often found in the desert) is hidden with permission, inside the Desert Discovery Center. The Desert Discovery Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 4pm, perhaps making this cache a little difficult to discover. You must sign the log book in order to claim a find; those are the basic rules, sorry. The manager and other people at the center are very friendly and welcome people to visit and learn about the area. I left a stack of geocaching brochures on a table at their invitation, so that other visitors may discover the wonders of geocaching in the desert.

This cache is absolutely wheelchair friendly. The cache is inside the discovery center; the cache is not hidden in the bushes or plants, so please do not go tromping around the delicate landscaping. The cache has been placed/hidden by the friendly volunteers, so even I don't know its specific location.

While you're there, see if there's anything you like, and if you like the whole place make sure you tell them that on Facebook. They could use all the good mojo they can get!

This cache was hidden as part of The San Bernardino County Cities Challenge. See the "Related Web Page" link above for more info.

I do take pride in all of my hides. If there are any issues with this cache or it is in need of maintenance, please do let me know. Please remember to trade equal or trade up, but don't just take items from this well stocked container.

Congrats go to whtwolfden on a fine FTF on a Friday.
