This is the positive counterpart to the I Hate I-5 Series of caches, and could equally be called the I Love 280 cache. As anyone knows who has driven it, 280 (aka the Junipero Serra Freeway) is both beautiful & expedient--it cuts through some of the most beautiful terrain on the peninsula, and it has a fraction of the traffic (and congestion) of the 101 along the same stretch.
This cache is a camoflauged tin, about the size of a block of butter, and can be reached from the rest stop. Bring your camera when you come to snap up the awesome views.
There aren't a great many hiding spots for caches here, and the spot I chose was the best option but has its drawbacks. Be careful for reservoir-gazing muggles, who might be able to spot you. A couple of small wires are helping hold the container in place--it's probably best if you just slide the container out of its spot rather than undo the wires.
One final note of caution, courtesy of Woof! (11/27/03) FYI-The vista points are all closed at sunset and there is a $1,000 fine for even being in the area after dark. There are no signs saying so until you are inside, at which point you are already violating the rule. Tonight I was stopped and questioned by a patrol car which already had another person in cuffs. I was given the DUI test and released with a warning.
Enjoy!
