Nature reserve from Zau de Campie Traditional Cache

[EN] The protected area of the steppe peony from Zau de Câmpie (Mezőzáh in Hungarian) is considered to be the only place within the Carpathian arc where this flower grows.

[EN] The steppe peony (Paeonia Tenuifolia L) is a relic of the Pontic steppe and it has been within this area for at least 10 000 years, being the northernmost point in Romania where this species can be found. The nature reserve from Zau de Câmpie was founded in 1932 by Acad. Alexandru Borza and started from 2005 it is in the care of Octavian Calugar, honorary custodian. The steppe peony has 10 to 30 cm in height, grows in clumps and has crimson red flowers. It is protected by law and the nature reserve from Zau de Câmpie is unique in Europe. The first data about these peonies were published in Vienna in 1846. Nowadays, this protected area has 270 species, subspecies and a variety of very rare plants, many of them protected by law.

[RO] Bujorul de stepă (Paeonia Tenuifolia L) constituie o relicvă a stepei pontice, existând pe aceste meleaguri de cel puţin 10 000 de ani. Rezervaţia de la Zau de Câmpie din judeţul Mureş a fost înfiinţată în anul 1932 de către Acad. Alexandru Borza, iar din 2005 este în grija D-lui Octavian Călugăr, custode-onorific. Bujorul de stepă are o înălţime de la 10 până la 30 cm, creşte în tufe şi are florile de culoare sângeriu. Este o plantă ocrotită prin lege, iar rezervaţia de la Zau de Câmpie este unică în Europa. Primele date despre bujorii de aici au fost publicate la Viena în anul 1846. Azi, în rezervaţie sunt 270 de specii, subspecii şi varietăţi de plante rare, multe dintre ele ocrotite prin lege.
