Leisurely walk around Alvechurch taking upto an hour.
Co-ordinates provided are for suggested parking at a free car park in Alvechurch (not the Public House car park as this is not free - follow the signs for the shoppers car park).
Take a walk to the Alvechurch War Memorial at N52 21.089 W001 57.624. From the details on the plaque you will need to look for the date it was dedicated. (Derive A, B, C, D, E and F from the order the numbers appear on the plaque).

Walk via the Canal towpath to find the number on the bridge. To find G & H see the bridge number.

Before the coming of the Worcester & Birmingham Canal in about 1806, Withybed Green, Alvechurch consisted of 3 cottages along Birches lane. A stream was dammed to form a pool at various times, this small area was described as a “withy bed”.
To accommodate the limited traffic to this small community the canal company constructed a drawbridge, that could be lifted vertically, and for a time the pub located here was called “The Drawbridge”.
By 1840 the block now known as forward cottages housed 6 families, most of them canal folk. Mr Moses Perks, shoemaker built a cottage on the green (now called New Smithy) and next to him was established the Crown Inn.
The cache is 0.65ml container with room for logbook and small swaps.
