Geocache Description:

Roadside cache off Maplewood Ave celebrating some of the best neon art in Bellingham

Bellingham has several great neon signs, some bordering on artwork. This cache is the first in a series that honors some of these signs.

This cache can be found not far from the Bellingham Pawnshop neon sign off of I5. The coordinates take you to the sign, not the cache.

This is a multi-cache for several reasons. First, if I put the cache at the sign, no one would need a GPSr. Second, I want to stress that the cache is not accessible from the side of I5. My GPSr kept insisting that I pull over on I5. Don't do it. Access to the cache is from Maplewood Ave, which is the frontage road to the SW of I5. Do not park on the side of I5.

To find the cache, first find the neon sign. There is a telephone pole just up the road from the sign on Maplewood. There are 5 numbers on the pole. These numbers are ABCDE.

Next, read through the entire set of instructions below before doing any math.

Find the address of the pawnshop from its mailbox. These 4 digits are FGHJ. Count the number of overhead doors on the storage building near the sign. The digits are KL. Count the number of gills in the shark on the neon sign. This digit is M. Count the number of flagpoles at the Lions Club. This digit is N.

Divide ADCDE by 4 to get PQRS. Multiply this number by K, divide it by G, then multiply by C. Add this result to the north coordinate.

Now add FGHJ to KLM. Divide this result by S. Take the lower three digits of this number and multiply it by L. Add this number to the West coordinates.

Read through all the directions? Congratulations. Now ignore all but the first one about the telephone pole. The cache can be located by subtracting six (or .006) from the North, and using the first two digits from the telephone pole (AB) as the last two digits of the West. Good luck.

The cache container is a half liter lock and lock.
