"A Taste of the North West" Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

North West Mega: A month has now passed since we met everyone at this event, so its time to archive this listing.

There were 130 team names in the logbook, but only 123 have loged an attendance. If anyone still needs to log they attended, you can still do this after it is archived.

Finally, thanks to everyone who turned up to make this day extra special, and we look forward to meeting you again in Cartmel in 2012

Geocache Description:

Having experienced the hospitality of the Welsh, this is a great opportunity to have ”A Taste of the North West”.

In 2012, the 5th UK Mega Event is heading North again, to Cartmel Racecourse, Cumbria. This is an ideal chance to meet members of the North West Mega Committee who will be able to give you an insight into what we have planned for next year.

2012 UK Mega Event

When :
Monday 1st August 2011 from 14:00 until 17:00.

Where :
Gnoll Country Park, Fairyland, Neath/Castell-Nedd, South Wales, SA11 3BS.

Gnoll Country Park was awarded the title of Best Picnic spot in Wales in 2010 in the National Picnic Awards. It is based on an early 18th century landscaped garden of over 100 acres and features lakeside and woodland walks, restored cascades, a grotto, a coarse fishery, play area, adventure playground and a visitor centre exploring the history and evolution of the estate.

It is planned to hold this event outdoors, close to the Visitor Centre, but if we have inclement weather we have also booked space inside.

Transport :
Gnoll Country Park is located less than 3 miles from junction 43 of the M4 Motorway. It is just south of the A465, and has a large car park adjacent to the visitor centre. For a map, please click here.

Car Parking charges have recently been introduced at several locations in the area, including Gnoll Country Park. It is now £1 per car for the whole day. There is still free roadside parking outside the park which would then entail an uphill walk of about 300m to the event.

The visitor centre is serviced by a local bus, taxis, or it can be walked, being about a mile from Neath Railway station. By bus, use service 153 (every 2 hrs) from Neath Bus Station and alight at the Fairyland Terminus. This is at the country park gates and is 400m from the visitor centre.

Food :
The visitors centre has a café, however, we invite you to taste some North West specialities like Lancashire & Cheshire cheese, Eccles & Chorley cakes, as well as Blackpool Rock. Cumbria offers Kendal Mint Cake (taken on many Everest expeditions), Grasmere Gingerbread and the world famous Sticky Toffee Pudding from Cartmel!

For the kids and pets :
There is a play area and an adventure playground to keep the children happy.
Well behaved dogs are very welcome, although they should not enter the play areas or go indoors.

Bring a chair, bring a brolly........ it is summer after all........ but most importantly, bring yourselves. We're looking forward to seeing you.
