This cache is located on top of the hill Vahteristonmäki. From the
cache there is a great, unobstructed view to the South and on a
clear day you can easily see all the way to Lahti and even further.
Take a pair of binoculars with you.
On the top of the hill are the remnants of an old triangulation
tower by the National Land Survey and the triangulation point is
marked on the bedrock with an iron bolt painted red.
More interestingly, on the hill is also an old triangulation
point which is part of the Struve Geodetic Arc. The exact location
of the point is unknown to me, but there is a very suspicious
looking small hole in the bedrock some two metres from the iron
bolt. It may or may not be marker of the Struve point as they were
generally marked in this manner. More information about the Struve

Incidentally, this hill is also the highest point of the commune
of Nastola. The recorded height of the top is 177.9 metres above
sea level.
Tämä kätkö on Vahteristonmäen huipulla. Kätköltä on hyvät näköalat
etelään ja kirkkaalla ilmalla näkyy Lahteen asti, ja pidemmällekin.

Mäen huipulla on Maanmittauslaitoksen vanhan kolmiomittaustornin
jäännökset ja itse mittauspiste on merkitty punaiseksi maalatulla
rautapultilla, joka on lyöty kallioon.
Mielenkiintoista on myös se, että mäellä on Struven ketjuun
kuuluva vanha kolmiomittauspiste. Tämän pisteen tarkka sijainti ei
ole tiedossani, mutta kalliossa on hyvin mielenkiintoisen näköinen
kolo noin kahden metrin päässä punaisesta rautapultista. Se saattaa
olla tai olla olematta Struven pisteen merkki, sillä ne oli tapana
merkitä maastoon tällä tavalla. Lisätietoja Struven ketjusta löytyy

Sattumalta tämä mäki on myös Nastolan kunnan korkein kohta.
