[RO] Cutie aniversara, la 140 de ani de la incercarea de a instaura prima Republica in Romania.
Remember, remember, the 8th of August... :)


[EN] Anniversary cache dedicated to the first Republic in our country. A short-lived one.

[RO] "În secolul nostru s-a nascut si s-a sfârsit un stat foarte interesant, pe care nu-i este permis unui istoric constiincios sa-l piarza din vedere. Voi sa vorbesc despre Republica de la Ploesti, un stat care, desi a durat numai vreo cinsprezece ore, a marcat desigur o pagina celebra în istoria contemporana. Nascuta din, prin si pentru popor, pe la doua ceasuri în dimineata zilei de 8 august 1870, tânara republica a fost sugrumata în aceeasi zi pe la ceasurile patru dupa-amiazi. Nu face nimica! marirea si importanta statelor nu se judeca dupa extensiunea si durata lor, ci dupa rolul mai mult sau mai putin stralucit pe care l-au jucat în complexul universal."

I wish to speak of the Ploiesti Republic, a state which, although it has lasted only fifteen hours, has for sure marked a celebrated page in contemporary history. Born out of, through, and for the people, at around two o'clock in the morning of August 8, 1870, the young republic was smothered on the same day, around four o'clock in the afternoon. Never mind! the greatness and importance of states are not judged by their extent and duration, but by the more or less brilliant role they have played in the universal system."

The founding document of the Republic was read in front of the people gathered in the city center, where the statue of Liberty stands today. The cache is near the statue. Bring your own pen.
