1 Hester St, Yarraville Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bunjil: Unfortunately I cannot see any information that indicates that steps have been taken to resolve the issue/s associated with this placement. Therefore as advised previously, the cache is being de-listed (Archived) to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains what needs to happen with a Disable cache.

Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center article here.

If you wish to contact me please send an email via my profile - Bunjil, and quote the cache name and GC number.

Geocache Description:

1 Hester St. Yarraville (GC1NTX4)

This is a third cache for wallyhunt.

The suburb of Spotswood was cut in half with the building of the Westgate Freeway, and Westgate Bridge, and you can see more of the history of this in my second cache, “Freeway Views”. This map was taken from a 1968 edition of the Gregory's Street Directory.

One cost of this project, was that some people had to lose their homes, and off Williamstown Road Yarraville, was Hester St.

Hester St. was removed in its entirety to make way for a freeway, and Hester St. has been forgotten by almost all, except for the people who lived there, and now geocachers might know of it. The land of the former Hester St. is below the Western foot of the Westgate Bridge. The cache is located on land that I estimate to have been in the back yard of what might have been 1 Hester St. Yarraville.

If you are attempting this cache, I warn you that you are in a high muggle area, and this location will present its difficulties. About 1500 muggles drive past this place every hour.

The cache is located near a freeway on ramp, but in a pedestrian area.

If visiting this site, children are not welcome.
What are we looking for? Yes, the cache is a ballpoint pen.
Well, the pen is no more, too often filled with water, and broken putting back together.
Bring your own pen, because the workings of the pen have been removed.

WARNING: Other cachers have reported finding syringes near this cache. There is no need to scratch round on the ground to find the cache, it is off the ground. Please take care, and no need to poke round in the junk on the ground. You may decide it is wise to wear a thick pair of gloves here.

Due to some people reporting difficulty extracting the log, it is attached (and wrapped round) a match. If it is pushed in too far, it may be difficult for others to extract. If your fingers are large, you may need to bring a pair of fine nose pliers (or multi tool), tweezers etc. to get the log.
