Thomasville History Series - Age Does Matter
This geocache is located beneath the branches of Thomasville’s famous “Big Oak,” a nearly 350 year old Live Oak beloved by tourists and locals alike. This popular geocache was originally placed by 2Hillbillies who generously allowed it to become a part of the Thomasville History Series. THE CONTAINER IS NOT LOCATED ON THE TREE. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH OR CLIMB ON THE TREE - IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO FIND THIS CACHE.
The Big Oak has been a popular photo spot for visitors in town for many years. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, on one of his visits to Thomasville, asked his driver to pull over so he could admire the stately oak. He stepped out of the car and stood on a neighbor’s porch to capture a photograph of the tree’s more than 150 foot branch spread.
