Geocache Description:

You are looking for a 35 mm film canister. Remove the cap only, not the entire canister.

This is our third cache on old Highway 47.  It brings back memories for Mr. CBIIJ of the long drive with his parents from Chicago to Lake Tomahawk for summer vacations before there was an interstate and the road was very hilly and curvy and the going was slow.  If you had been driving between Rhinelander and Lake Tomahawk in the early 1950's this would have been just one of the many spots where the original road curved back and forth off the current Higthway 47.  At that time the trip took much longer than it does today, as it was several miles longer.  Several portions of the old route are now side roads that pop in and out of the current highway, but this portion has been abandoned.  You will notice it has been gradually returning to its natural state with lots of grass and trees and wildflowers growing through and around the old road bed.  If you come in the right season you are very likely to see the ospreys nesting on top of the power pole not too far from the cache. We saw an adult pair (no baby yet) when we placed the cache.  It's also interesting to see the bits and pieces of roadway with its yellow center line showing in some spots along the way.

You may begin your short hike to the cache from the first parking coords and continue on to our other caches. Please be sure to pull off the highway far enough to be safe.

Or you can start at the second parking coords and do the other two caches first and end up with this one.

We hope you'll enjoy the trip down memory lane.
