The Burger Tor (Citizens Gate or Ocnei Gate), visible in the Johann Böbel's painting, was one of the fortified gates of the medieval city Hermannstadt.
[EN] The bastion gate was built in 1552 and survived a little over 300 years until 1857. In 2013 (rehabilitation of the Ocnei street) the gate and the tower positions were marked in the paving stone.
Then was built the Powder Tower. The tower is 14.5m tall, rugged, has cylindrical shape and shooting holes in the wall. It exists today in the courtyard of Independenta Highschool. Its building was built in the early nineteenth century for Herma shoe factory.
In 1875, in the former gardens located between fortification and Cibin, the blacksmith Andreas Rieger was founded the Rieger Plants. "The first Transylvanian factory of agricultural machinery and foundry iron".The factory was nationalized in 1948, turned in Independenta Plants, which is now a ruin. There are still hopeful that the old buildings will be turn into a museum of industry.

[RO] Poarta Ocnei (Poarta cetățenilor = Burger Tor), vizibilă în pictura lui Johann Böbel, a fost una din porțile orașului medieval fortificat Hermannstadt. Bastionul porții a fost construit în 1552 și a supraviețuit puțin peste 300 de ani pâna în 1857. În anul 2013, odată cu reabilitarea străzii Ocnei, pozițiile porții și a turnului au fost marcate în pavaj cu piatră.
Odată cu bastionul a fost construit și Turnul Pulberăriei pentru a completa centura a IV-a de apărare a cetății. Turnul de 14.5m este robust, cu formă cilindrică și cu orificii de tragere în pereți. El există și astăzi în curtea Grupului Școlar Independența. Clădirea acesteia a fost ridicată la începutul sec. XIX pentru fabrica de pantofi Herma.
În 1875, pe fâșia fostelor grădini dintre fortificații și Cibin, maistrul forjor Andreas Rieger a înființat Uzinele Rieger: ”Prima fabrică ardeleană de mașini agricole și turnătorie de fier”. Fabrica naționalizată în 1948 s-a transformat în Uzinele Independența, care acum a ajuns o ruină. Sunt totuși speranțe că halele Rieger să se transforme într-un muzeu al industriei din Sibiu.
