Welcome to Ålesund!

This is the second in my series of Ålesund city tourist caches. Ålesund is visited by a lot of tourists every year, especially from cruise ships such as Hurtigruten and so forth.

If you visit all caches in this series, you'll experience a big portion of Ålesund city.

It would be great if as many nationalities as possible will visit and log this cache!

The cache is placed pretty close to the Hurtigruten docks, a hotel and a big parking lot for motorhomes/camper vans/wohnmobil. This cache is meant to be easily accessible for tourists. The cache only have a log and pencil.

Take good care of the cache and place it back in exactly the same position. Happy caching in Ålesund city!

Hurtigruten dock

The Hurtigruten dock, named Skansekaia, is an upgraded port of call for the Norwegian cruise line Hurtigruten. Hurtigruten is a daily passenger and freight shipping service along Norway's western and northern coast between Bergen and Kirkenes. Sometimes referred to as Norwegian Coastal Express, Hurtigruten ships sail almost the entire length of the country, completing the round-trip journey in 11 days. The trip has been described as the "World's Most Beautiful Sea Voyage," with highlights including the Hanseatic League city of Bergen, the Geiranger fjord (summer only), the Lofoten Islands and of course the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund.

A fleet of 11 ships visits each of the 34 ports daily, both northbound and southbound. After Norway, the greatest number of passengers come from Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Picture of new Hurtigruten ships. The first one will be ready already in 2018.
