This cache has been archived.

hollora: GONE! Don't understand as this has been here a long time (even thought it was sort of an in plain site cache it did well for a long run). Oh well. I no longer live in the area. Thanks to all who visited and posted the nice logs.

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Located in a scenic area in Orrington. This is a public boat launch with access to the Penobscot River and one seldom used. It provides access to a beautiful area of the Penobscot River. Please be respectful and replace the cache as and where found.

There is a physical cache here & and originally this was a Virtual Museum for my geocoins and personal TBs. I no longer am using this as a Virtual Gallery. If coins are listed in the cache - they should be there. PLEASE, do not take coins out and not log them - in the cache log or properly on line!!!

Traveling Coins and small TBs may be placed in and exchanged in this cache. Please if you take or place TBs in this cache place the information in the cache log book and in the on-line log. Your cooperation will be appreciated by other cachers.

Accessed off Route 15 - you will finally find Settlers Way. Settlers Way used to be the main road (RT 15) until a few years ago when it was rerouted. This area has been used by the public for a long time to access the river and enjoy the views.

Years ago, there used to be a lovely gazebeo which overlooked the river. This area isn't used a lot lately except by the usual youth for - well you know - activities. Hoping the caching activity will discourage them. The Community Policing Program knows about the cache - but NOT the location. The house to your left, as you drive down the access road, has a beautiful widow's walk (open). When you find the cache location - just image being in that widow's walk waiting for your husband to cruise up the river on a winter day!

A historian also has noted that the JAMES E. COBURN, a grand sailing ship was built here in Shipyard Cove in 1919. Laminated photo cards are sometimes available in the cache. If you would like one, feel free to take one. This history puts a whole different look to the area as well. You will notice the rocks near the shore have a specific plan as if for the foundation of a wharf or pier.

I hope you enjoy your visit. Although the road is not plowed in winter this should be accessible all year long - it will just be a ski or snowshoe hike. In winter - please do not block the driveway to the parking lot on the right behind the house on Settlers Way.

This location is a great spot to launch a boat or just sit and have a picnic (sorry there are no tables).

Included in this cache are: a log book, a pen and the usual trade items found in a cache. Hope you enjoy the cache and visit to my town!
