Geocache Description:


The Galena Grave Robber cache will take you to the oldest cemetery in historic Galena, Illinois. The City Cemetery was one of the few prominent features on the first known plat map of Galena. Today the cemetery is maintained by the City of Galena as a historical site.

This cache is intended to encourage community members and visitors to the explore the site and learn the importance of the site in the context of Galena's history. The cache was placed with permission of a city official. Please be respectful at all times when inside the confines of the cemetery. Also, please be respectful and avoid all private property adjacent to the cemetery. This cache will be immediately removed if there are any complaints.

The information needed to obtain the coordinates for the second stage are found just outside the cemetery fence at the posted coordinates (the first stage). A gate to enter the cemetery from an adjacent city park is also at the posted coordinates. On street parking is available in front of the gate.
