Detta är Maria af Rökinges hemmahamn. Här förvaras hon vintertid i sitt båthus. Sommartid kan hon beundras i Grevehamnen vid Visingsborg.
Maria af Rökinge är byggd 1885 och seglar fortfarande. Tillsammans med Vikingen från Erstad är hon den enda kvarvarande byabåten som fortfarande är sjöduglig. Byabåtarnas funktion var en gång i tiden att frakta öns produkter till de omkringliggande städerna. Denna funktiona har i hembygdsföreningens regi återupptagits i vår tid. Första söndagen efter midsommar ”kappseglar” de båda båtaran till Hjo lastade med jordgubbar, potatis m m.
This is the home port of Maria af Rökinge. Here she is kept during the winter in her boathouse. In the summer, she can be admired in Grevehamnen at Visingsborg.
Maria af Rökinge, was built in 1885 and is still sailing. Along with the Viking from Erstad she is the only remaining of willage owned traditional boats still seaworthy. The function of the boats was once to transport the products of the island to the surrounding cities. The local history association has resumed this functionalty in our time. First Sunday after Midsummer the two boats are "racing" to Hjo loaded with strawberries, potatoes, etc.
