In 1872, Adams Lutheran Church relocated their congregation to this site. However, they continued to use the old cemetery for another 20 years, removing the old building to allow for the expansion. In the 1890’s, the new cemetery was dedicated across the road from the current building and eventually the old cemetery became inactive.
You may have noticed that this is a partial second row. This is known as the children’s row. It was common to segregate children from the adults because a child’s coffin was smaller and didn’t need as much room lengthwise as an adult. Burying children in rows separate from adults made more efficient use of the land. In the old cemetery, you will see a number of rows that consist of only children. The children’s row in the new cemetery hasn’t been used for a number of reasons. Today’s advancement in medicine has done a lot to lessen childhood morbidity. But there was also a request from a few parents to allow them to bury the child in the adult rows with spaces reserved next to the child for the parents to be buried in when their time comes.
The ground here is level and firm and it is possible for strollers and wheelchairs to get around here; however, a person in a wheelchair may need assistance to get to the cache. The cache you’re looking for is a dark green plastic jar with a black lid. It contains a log but no pencil, so bring your own writing instrument. There’s also room for small trade items and trackables. Since this is an active church and cemetery it is also a high-muggle area so plenty of stealth is needed. Please refrain from caching during service times. On Memorial Day a VFW Honor Guard stops here to honor the veterans laid to rest here. Should they arrive while you are caching here, please stop your caching activity until after they have finished. As always, please do not cache here at night.
