Box Woodland, formerly the Harry and Hazel Box Farm
Michigan State University Natural Areas, Category III Area (Undeveloped area of scientific value; limited manipulation for research and demonstration may be allowed)
A 5 acre mixed woodland containing silver maple, white ash, basswood, sugar maple, sycamore, and oak (bur, red and Muehlenberg). A rare tree present is the red mulberry. In 1978, numerous rotting trunks of elms were observed. The woodland contains an exceptionally rich herbaceous flora.
The difficulty of 1.5 was selected because it is not in plain view. The terrain of 2.0 was selected because it is over a half mile walk on grassy trails (no wheel chairs or strollers, but no bushwhacking (except for the last 20')).
