Geocache Description:

Meeting up early evening (time still be be arranged) in the Britannia Inn Halkyn - pub information

A very special historic experiment takes
place on Saturday 19th March when communication will be attempted
between ten ancient Hillforts for the first time in 2000 years.
The nearest Hillfort is Moel y Gaer Rhosesmor

Glowlight

On March 19th, North East Wales’ Heather and Hillforts Project and Cheshire West and Chester’s Habitats and Hillforts Project will be heading for the hills. The experiment will involve local people close to ten hillforts on the Sandstone Ridge, the Clwydian Range, Halkyn Mountain and the Wirral, trying to communicate between the hillforts using torch light.

Flares will be launched from the hillforts followed by torch light at Maiden Castle, Beeston Castle, Kelsborrow, Helsby, Burton Point,
Moel y Gaer Rhosesmor , Penycloddiau, Moel Arthur, Moel Fenlli and Caer Drewyn.

Volunteers will be invited to help with this mass experiment by manning each of the ten hilltops and signalling with torches in an attempt to make contact across the landscape. Places are strictly limited, we - Team Marzipan, have registered. So to register to help as a volunteer for your local Hillfort - contact Ann Roberts (admin) on 01824708230 ASAP.
Once registered, volunteers will be sent information packs with exact timings to meet and what to bring.
Don't worry if you can't get in as a volunteer you can still turn up and be a spectator

Volunteers start time is approx twilight, I will post more information as soon as I know more.

Britannia Inn Halkyn caching meet 4.00pm start untill 6.30pm
I advise the cachers NOT booked in as Volunteers to turn up on the HillFort at 6.30pm.

We have just heard from the organisers and the experiment will start at 6.30pm and last until 7.30pm then it's back to the Britannia Inn Halkyn to do more geotalking/drinking/eating

Timing for the Volunteers is 5.30pm start, so we shall leave the pub at 5.15pm.

If you would like to order food please ring Rhiannon on 01352 781564 (mob 07956610754) at the Britannia Inn she did say the lunch menu would be on untill 6.00pm and no major panic to order.

What to bring:
• Warm Clothes – lots of layers and your winter woollies (don’t forget a hat!)
• Stout footwear – terrain under foot is steep and uneven
• Gloves – your hands will get very cold when signalling with torches if you don’t have gloves.
• A torch – if you have a high powered torch, bring this with you. Normal torches will also be useful for signalling and finding your way back to your car.
• A flask of hot drink – it will be cold!
• Binoculars
• A change of clothes may be advisable if the weather is bad as well as extra layers

WE'RE HAVING A BREAK IN FUNDRAISING, SO NO RAFFLE WILL TAKE PLACE AT THIS EVENT
