Ici ne se trouve que la partie centrale des « Grandes Caves de Lyon », ancien grossiste en vin très réputé à la fin du 19ème siècle. Autrefois ce bâtiment s'élevait à proximité de la gare de l’Est (aujourd’hui disparue) et avait fait du quartier de la Villette un petit pôle industriel et artisanal.
Pendant la seconde guère mondiale, l'entreprise fournissait en vin les armées françaises sur le front de la ligne Maginot.
Vandalisé, saccagé, l'entrepôt fut en grande partie rasé pour la construction d'une ZAC. Aujourd'hui, le seul vestige de cet énorme entrepôt est sa façade restaurée et accolée à un immeuble récent.
Depuis 2003, rebaptisé "château Sans Souci", le bâtiment est ouvert en maison de quartier et sert aux associations. Vous trouverez aussi un petit jardin publique juste derrière.

At this place we can now only see the central part of the "Grandes Caves de Lyon", which was a famous former wine wholesale company in the late 19th century. Formerly built near the Gare de l'Est (railway station now defunct) the La Villette district was as small industrial center.
During the second world war, the company provided wine to the French armies on the battlefront of the Maginot Line.
Vandalized, ransacked the building was largely demolished for the construction of an integrated development zone. Today the only wall of the huge warehouse is restored and attached to a building with no soul.
Since 2003, called as "Chateau Sans Souci", the place is open to public and hosts non-profit organization. You can also find a small public garden just behind.
