Geocache Description:

In the East Village neighborhood of New York City, on the Lower East side of Manhattan, there are still over 70 community gardens. They were created by local residents, on empty and unused city land, over the last 30 years. Today, as part of the Green Thumb program, most of these gardens are protected as NYC parks. But in order to preserve them, access is limited. This cache is part of the East Village tour of community gardens.

This is a micro cache hidden under some camoflage attatched to one of our lesser known neighborhood gardens. Please be careful not to disturb the plant life. The garden contains a goldfish pond, a bedrock grotto, stone picnic tables, and a lookout/conversation perch.

The only way to see anything is to come is during daylight hours. While not technically necessary to find the cache, the absolute best time is when the gates are open. This makes caching suddenly much more enjoyable. The cache is easier to find if you can use the scenic southern approach to the location. The gates are always open on Saturday & Sunday from 1P to 4P, and Wednesday 6P to sundown.

They also open at other random times, and if you find them open, please enter, you will be welcomed. You can make the Northern approach to the cache at any time, but doing so at night is not suggested, as the local block association may mis-interpret your intentions.

We measured the coordinates very quickly, one time only, when we had an accuracy of + or - 45 feet. So you will have to rely on your urban caching experience. Inside or out, no need to interfere with the gate.

As always in urban caching, the best stealth strategy is to show an interest in the local scenery. And always bring a pen.

Please carefully replace the cache where you found it.

This cache is part of the East Village Garden Tour cache
