Baranja Chapels: St. John of Nepomuk Traditional Geocache

Cache is regular size. It containes logbook, pen, road and tourist map of Croatia, Baranja postcards and some small items so trade is wellcome.

The Chapel St. John of Nepomuk was built of hard material in 1781st and it was built instead of old wooden chapel. Petar Čakanj, who was vicar of the religion district in Branjin Vrh, built this chapel. Russian tanks destroyed the chapel at the end of the World War II. Years later, pastors of the religion district in Beli Manastir found original foundation of chapel. They rebuilt St. John of Nepomuk chapel based on its picture from 1906th.

John of Nepomuk (or John Nepomucene) (Czech: Jan Nepomucký) (c. 1345 – March 20, 1393) is a national saint of the Czech Republic, who was drowned in the Vltava river at the behest of Wenceslaus, King of the Romans and King of Bohemia. Later accounts state that he was the confessor of the queen of Bohemia and refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. On the basis of this account, John of Nepomuk is considered the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, a patron against calumnies and, because of the manner of his death, a protector from floods.
