City Harbour Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

If you wish to contact me about this cache please use my Email address below my signature and quote the GC number of the cache. Please note this system is not infallible and I may miss any such mail.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

Cache is another patented FlashBashly black magentic nano.

Placed slightly above ground level it is in plain view if you look in the right place. Access is excellent with paved paths and roads and there is public parking nearby. Refreshments are also available nearby and there are conveniences, although not public.

Site is also very close to route 72 of the National Cycle Network so would be suitable to combine with a local rideout.

St Peters Basin is an inland marina built in the early 1990's as part of the overall regeneration of the Ouseburn Area. It combines approximately 150 fixed berths along with other services related to the marine sports. The development itself is surrounded by residential housing and some small businesses operate on the lower level.

Until a few years ago the infamous Byker Incinerater operated above the development, much to the chagrin of the local residents, although this has now been replaced with household recycling facilities which are much kinder to the local environment.

Walking east would take you towards Walker Business Park and the remnants of the areas shipbuilding industry. A trip west will take you to Newcastle Quayside and Ouseburn Valley which is well worth a look around.

Across the river you are very close to the rear of Gateshead International Stadium and you should be able to see the floodlights lit on an evening fixture. The hill to the rear was also a popular place ot watch 'free' sports for the local
residents.

The Marina is a pleasant place for a stroll on a summer evening. It is normally not particularly busy although there may be a few muggles on boats pottering about.

If anybody has any information about the area prior to redevelopment I would be interested to hear and will put in the description. Thanks.
