Geocache Description:

The Ochil 2000s is an annual hill race. The course is 31.2kms long and covers all ten peaks of 2000ft or above in the Ochils. In addition an 11th hill top is included at Dumyat. The record time is 2hrs 39mins 17 secs by Murray Strain. Don't worry you don't need to beat Murray's time but you will need to complete this Wherigo within 12 hours. There is parking at both ends at Pendreich and Glen sherup. The official race runs East-West and finishes at Stirling university. You don't need to go that far to complete the course and find the cache if heading East-West. Please be aware of weather conditions and make sure you are properly prepared for hill walking.

I have provided the route that the race uses. This is now longer than it used to be because of new deer fences installed to protect the new woodland restoration project. If you stick to the race route you will not need to climb any deer fences. This means coming down to Menstrie to get to Dumyat from Colsnaur. Please note that you can save the game whilst playing it but if you turn off the cartridge and restore the saved game you will incur a 2 hour penalty. So it is theoretically possible to complete the Wherigo over multiple days but each day will reduce your overall available time.

You will need to download the cartridge. Download Here

When running the cartridge you should hear a fanfare and get an information screen when you reach a summit. It is important that location is turned on within the cartridge and I would also recommend occasionally checking the cartridge is still running and keeping it on the navigation screen to keep it active. If the cartridge does stop running you would be best not restoring any saved games until reaching the next peak. You could start a new game if you want it for navigational purposes and then restore the saved game on arriving at a peak.
