Geocache Description:

Searching for this cache will take you into areas frequented by hunters so it is removed from October 1 to March 1.

(5 locations =10 mike hike.) This cache is a 1-gallon paint can. It is the fifth and final location of a multiple ache.

All locations are on NY State lands managed by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). An access permit is required on the property. Free access permits are available from DEC at Stony Brook University. You can get a permit application on line from www.climbonline.org-pdf-decpermit-pdf.

Location-1 contains the coordinates of Location-2. Location-2 contains the coordinates of Location-3, etc..
Bring water and snacks or lunch.

Start at Western terminus of Paumonok Trail across from Burger King in Rocky Point, NY located at (40 56.67 N, 72 56.92 W). The Paumonok Trail is marked with white blazes and is also called RCA Blue and is marked with blue blazes.

To find Location-1 (40 55.162 N, 72 57.207 W)
Hike RCA Blue for about two miles to get to the location. Look for a telephone pole stump about ten feet off the trail on the left. Get the coordinates of location-2 there.

To find Location-2
Continue on RCA Blue. Cross over County Rd 21. From there its about a mile to location-2. It's a nice place to picnic or have lunch when hiking RCA Blue.

To find Location-3
Continue on RCA Blue until it meets RCA Red. Turn left, heading northeast. The final cache location is actually located off the first horse trail you will cross but you have two other locations to find first. At the third horse trail (actually a family bike trail), turn right to find location-3. By now you should be into about six miles and it is a good place to rest.

To find Location-4
Get back on RCA Red and continue northeast. You will come to a dirt road at (40 56.365 N, 72 55.076 W). Turn right and watch your GPS to decide where to bushwhack to location-4. Actually location-4 is right along the main loop bike trail but it is more direct to go as I have directed.

To find Location-5
Get back on that dirt road and head southwest toward location-5. It will eventually change to a blacktop road but continue on it. Watch your GPS as it points to location-5 on your left. As it begins to point behind you, you should see the horse trail on the left that was mentioned for location-3. Go down the trail and jump into the woods for location-5.

Back to Burger King
Take the horse trail back to the blacktop road and cross it. Continue in a northerly direction for about half a mile. Here you should find RCA Red crossing. Turn left and it's about 1.2 miles to Burger King.

Happy Trails - Whitehat
