Encrypted Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

blb9556: After 14 years (!!) of this cache being active, I'm going to go ahead and archive it. When I found it 10 years ago, I was very impressed by the type of solving required for this puzzle. In the past 10 years, this area has changed significantly in terms of hiding spaces. As you can imagine, a fallen tree in 2004 won't be in the same condition in 2008, or even 2018. Thank you to everyone who found this cache over the years!

Geocache Description:

Puzzle cache hidden in a wooded park in Dublin. You will need to park on a side street.

CYPHERTEXT:

REMMD FDJGL LKSBI VCJKS RTRIG FNJPT JSFBM NBSJI WETHD GJKFL

CODE:
N: {I2 W6} {E1 E1} {Y5 F7}
W: {F7 Z4} {Q7 Z3} {E1 Q7 Z3}

KEY:
N: {Q7 Z3} {E1 R3} {G4 R3 Z3}
W: {V2 Z3} {Q7 Y5} {G4 V2 I2}

If you've done The Hex, Regz Fan III, or the Bit Bucket , you may know what to expect. This cache has a little twist to it however.

In this case, you need to unscramble both the CODE and the KEY that are hidden in the CYPHERTEXT. To get you started, V2 = 65.

There's also a number of transformations you will need to do, including:

  • Hexidecimal to Decimal
  • Decimal to Binary
  • Decimal to ASCII
  • ROT13 conversion

When you are finished with the transformations, you should have four sets of binary numbers: two for the CODE and two for the KEY. XOR the two CODE numbers with their corresponding KEY numbers, and you will get the coordinates of the cache.

Here's some help if you need it:
