I learned to count at a very early age by playing dominoes with Aunt Lillie, my eldest sister, Jo, and older sister, Jean. (JCSugar)
She would also have us make our own books, using old styrofoam butcher trays, sales ads, and homade glue. (flour, water & salt)
We would cut out pictures from newspaper ads, paste them in books of strofoam, and write the story around the pictures.
She had a hand drawn picture of an owl hanging on the wall with this poem:
A wise old owl lived in an oak
The more he saw, the less he spoke
The less he spoke, the more he learned
Why can't we be like that wise old bird?
She passed away just after her 100th birthday, or as I liked to tease, her 25th birthday. She was born on Leap Day in 1904 and the only person I knew (after I became a Cubs fan) who was alive when the Chicago Cubs last won the World Series. (1908)
This cache is not on any grave and is too small for a pen or TB's.
Aunt Lillie's final resting place is 30' west of this location. Please stop by and say hi.
She was a wonderful teacher and I miss her dearly.
Oh, and the little cutey with her in the picture? Starlight85!
