Drive by on the road from Belford to Wooler.
In the reign of Charles I a visitor to Belford described the village as "the most miserable, beggarly town with little shelter for horse or man"! Around one hundred years ago historian W.W Tomlinson described the village as "an exceedingly quiet place with quaint reminiscences of the past in its irregular streets and plain gray houses of stone". Times have changed and it's now a quaint and friendly village.
Belford is a good starting point for many walks, there are crags nearby for climbing and it’s just a few miles to the beach at Budle Bay and Bamburgh.
This is a drive by cache on the B6349 from Belford to Wooler. Be careful when parking as the stopping point is below the brow of the hill. Alternative, safer, parking can be found in Belford village and then walking up the bank, or passing further uphill and parking at the entrance to Sionside farm and walking back down.
The view from the cache is rather good; you can see Belford, the coast at Budle Bay and Lindisfarne – Holy Island.
