This is an interactive webcam atop a building in Ventura, with a view of Pierpont Bay and Promenade Park.
The goal is to log the cache by capturing an image of yourself with your GPS in view of the webcam, then upload it with your log description and coordinates. (The coordinates listed above are that of the web cam, but you can record your image anywhere within its field of view.) You will need an accomplice with a telephone and a web connection to help you out on this. This is how it's usually done, but you can do it other ways:
- Make sure the camera is live before you go find the location
- When you get to the location, call your accomplice on your cell phone.
- Tell them where you are in the picture
- Have them find you in the picture and zoom in on you. (Clicking on the image aims the camera.)
- Once you have a good image, right click on the image, then save the image to your hard disk.
- Record your coordinates at the point where your picture is taken.
- Upload the image and enter your coordinates when you post your find.
- Extra points are awarded for creativity and distance from web cam.
Click here to go to the Pierpont Bay WebCam .
When you click on the link above, there will be controls on the upper right. You can play with them to get the best image, but my approximate recommended final settings are:
- zoom: 27.0
- picture size: x-large
- quality: balanced
- brightness: depends upon available light
Here is a picture of me carving some driftwood.
Can you tell what I am carving?

Well I just had to do this since the webcam is on the web site where I work. Great idea, wish I had thought of it. I'm standing on N 34 16.564, W 119 17. 557. Oh yeah, I'm first! Thanks,

Since I was on my way back from other caches, decided to call my brother and have him log me. I'm sitting just outside the pool area on the promenade. My GPSr is in a mount on the bike (great thing to have for geocaching). I'm at N34 16.554, W119 17.631

Took a little doing but convinced my 16 year son to work the cam and get a shot of me and my lovely redheaded wife. Great day at the beach.

This was our third trip up here. We finally had someone available to save the pics and email them to us. We are still trying to figure out how to open them and save them on the web page. But it was a great idea, and the beach was perfect today

WAHOOOO! Had to save this one for my 100th cache. ...people on the beach thought I was crazy - what's new? THANKS! EC

I have waited months for this camera to be back on-line since I procrastinated before when it went down. I'm standing at N34.16.343, W119.17.557 near the end of the pier. That's me in the white shirt with my hand in the air next to the sign. I wanted to hand off the very end but the sign was reflecting too much light. If I was really energetic I would rent a kayak and paddle out a ways. Left nothing, took a load of fishing line that could have tangled with a seal.
