Geocache Description:

Located in Boston Harbor on George's Island. The island is open to the public between May and mid-October.

Construction of Fort Warren was begun in 1834. The granite walls are 8 feet thick. During the Civil War, it was used to hold Confederate prisoners. The cache coordinates are to one of the entrances to the interior of the fort. This is a fun place to go exploring. The fort is huge, and it's a great place for a family picnic of just to walk around for a few hours.

You can get to Georges Island by ferry: http://www.bostonislands.com/default.asp If you have your own boat, you can take yourself, as there is public dock space.

Things to bring:

* Flashlights! (Lots of dark places to explore inside the fort.)
* Food and water -There is limited food service on the island, so I wouldn't count on it.
* Sunscreen

VISIT VERIFICATION: In order to prove that you have visited this location please do one of the following:

1. When you're inside the parade ground, to the northwest you'll see the sallyport, which is the large doorway leading to the wooden bridge that takes you to the outside of the fort. In the stone above the port, you'll see the words "FORT WARREN 1850". Below, to the right of the sallyport, there is a bronze plaque affixed to the wall. Email me (eupper@yahoo.com) with the date on the plaque. DO NOT post the answer in your cache log, even if it is encrypted.

2. Email me (ethanator@hotmail.com) a photo of you at the cache coordinates location (not the sallyport) holding your GPS receiver.

Have fun! It's a great place to visit!
