An early opportunity for geocachers to earn themselves the new CITO souvenir while contributing to the management of Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve . (I'm planning to do a weekend CITO in April somewhere in Sheffield too - as I know weekdays are less convenient for lots of people.)
The site is a wildlife haven hidden away amongst the industry of the lower Don Valley. There are a range of habitats including wetland, woodland and meadows. We will be working on an area of scrub with the aim of turning it into meadows to inrease the diversity of plants and animals on site. We may also do some general litter-picking and tidying around the reserve if time allows.
The event will run from 10:00 to 14:30 with a break for lunch from 12:00 to 12:30. People can come along for as much or as little of the session as they want - any help is appreciated. All tools, gloves and equipment will be provided, but please wear suitable outdoor clothing and strong shoes. The Rangers will bring hot drinks and a few snacks, but please bring a packed lunch if you're staying for the whole session. There is a car park available at the end of Steel Street - go down Psalters Lane, over the level crossing and follow the road as it turns to the right.
