Webster’s Dictionary defines the word “Hero” as “a person admired for courage, nobility etc.” Anyone can be a hero if they strive to overcome obstacles and attempt to inspire or make things a little brighter. Heroes can be great role models in politics, medicine, sports, and many other arenas. You don’t have to great, just exercise a little courage.
Ralph Waldo Emerson has been quoted as saying “A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer.” A lot can be said for that, but I subscribe more to the view of Nelson Mandela who said “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
Great heroic deeds can be accomplished by regular people conquering their fears and doing the sublime: to overcome your limitations and do great things. These are my heroes!
