Geocache Description:

Glen by the Maury

Buena Vista, Virginia's Glen Maury Park contains 315 acres of scenic woodland with a campground, an Olympic-sized pool and lots of recreational activities. Each summer the park hosts the renowned Maury River Fiddlers' Convention.

The Story

Buena Vista largely owes its existence to Benjamin C. Moomaw, who founded the town of Green Forest here in the late 1800s. With the arrival of railroads and the discovery of iron ore, the city of Buena Vista was established in 1892.

Glen Maury Park sits astride the ridge overlooking Buena Vista from the opposite side of the Maury River. The park is the centerpiece of a wide variety of recreational activities in the region, including golf at the adjacent Vista Links, Fridays in the Park summer concert series, the annual Maury River Fiddlers' Convention, the Nothin' Fancy Bluegrass Festival, the Buena Vista Labor Day Parade (a Virginia political tradition), and annual Beach Music Festival & Car Show.

Geocaching has also become a popular activity in the park, and there are several nearby hides in addition to the trail cache.

The Cache

The cache is a standard ammo can at the listed coordinates.
