Geocache Description:

Congratulations to MacApple on the FTF!!

Woodward has long been known for cars, cruising and concrete, but when it comes to food, glorious food, M-1 could easily be called "Mmmmmm-mmmmm-1."

From Detroit to Pontiac, Woodward has been the home of hundreds of restaurants, drive-ins, coffee shops, grills, greasy spoons, cafes, cafeterias, coney islands, pizzerias, sandwich shops, hamburger huts, hash houses, breakfast joints, pancake houses and chicken places.

Many, if not most, of the establishments have gone to restaurant heaven, but many of the longtime favorites are still hanging in there in the unique recipes that made them memorable.  The place nearby has even been called the "Ground Zero" for Woodward classic food because they feature hard to find recipes from restaurants and drive-ins that have been gone for decades.  And of course, many folks have been able to relive many fun memories of days-gone-by with just one meal.

This cache is a dedication to those memories and the food that is associated with them.

The Totem-Pole Drive-In and the "Big Chief"

The "Big Chief" Burger is a Sandwich which hails from the old Totem Pole Drive-In and The burger itself is two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, and sweet pickles on a sesame seed bun and can also be ordered as a "turkey-burger" version.

Ted's Drive In where you could find the "5 by 5" burger

Ted's was well-known for the "5 by 5" burger.  The burger was made from 1/2 lb. burger, beef steak tomatoes, hearty slice of onion, crisp lettuce, and topped with special sauce.  The hamburger was 5" in diameter and was on the menu they told you to measure it as proof.

Susie Q. Drive In, famous for the Fish & Chips and "Chick 'N Chips"

One of the other popular restaurants, the Susie Q, was known for their its fish and chips and other fried treats.

Obviously, this is a very busy area.  Be stealthy in your hunt of this one... it's going to be tough because of the amount of muggles around, given the time of year, and the time of day.

WHATEVER memories you have, are welcome.  PLEASE share for the rest of us! :)

Thanks! :)
