Dönnerstag Tacos Event Cache

Join us on Thursday, April 13, when geocachers will gather across the world to celebrate the 11th annual Dönerstag. You will earn the first-ever Dönerstag souvenir by attending this event.

Dönerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time. They were trying to weasel their way into being able to log a Virtual MEGA Event. Even though that didn’t work, the tradition caught on!

These special events are held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name “Dönerstag” a pun: The German word for Thursday is “Donnerstag.” Kebab translates to “Döner.”

The German Kebab looks like an overgrown taco so we decided to hold this Dònnerstag event at a taco shop!  A quick event, stop in for the whole time or just to sign the log. Attending the event will qualify you to earn the new GC HQ souvenir.

Last year, over 6000 players attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland.  This year there will be even more events as more countries join the “Dònnerstag” event craze.
