PT - Azenha do Mar é uma pequena aldeia litoral, situada no concelho de Odemira, freguesia de São Teotónio. Cresceu em torno da atividade marítima - de pesca artesanal e apanha de algas marinhas. Encontra-se integrada no Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina.
No porto desta aldeia pitoresca, aconteceram, em tempos, as maiores apanhas de algas medicinais a nível nacional. Mergulhadores percorriam a costa e enchiam grandes redes que, posteriormente, eram trazidas para terra nas pequenas lanchas e entregues às mulheres. Estas ficavam encarregues de tratar as algas, o que consistia em espalhá-las em grandes descampados, deixar secar ao sol, virar e, quando completamente secas, apanhar e empilhar para serem recolhidas e encaminhadas à fábrica. Atualmente esta prática ainda é efetuada por uma minoria.
EN - Azenha do Mar is a small seaside village, located in the municipality of Odemira, in the parish of St.. Teotónio. It grew up around the maritime activity - fishing and harvesting of seaweed. It is integrated in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.
A long time ago in the harbour of this picturesque village took place the largest national harvests of medicinal seaweed. Divers traveled along the coast and filled large nets that subsequently were brought ashore in small boats and delivered to women. They treated the seaweeds, which meant to scatter them in large open fields, let it dry in the sun, turn them and when completely dry, catch and stack to be collected and sent to the factory. Today this practice is still carried out by a minority.
