Geocache Description:

We wish to extend a special "Thank You" to cacher "rocketglider" for replacing this cache for us in June, 2013. The Boy Scout slogan is "Do a Good Turn Daily!

This is the 4th Geocache in a series called “Cache to Eagle” which highlights Eagle Service Projects by the Boy Scouts of the Chief Seattle Council. This cache is in the Orca district.

Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete a project that – on average – requires 167 service hours. In 2008 alone, that translated to $16 million in service (based on national volunteer hour value of $19.51/hr).

This cache is part of a nationwide geocaching series called “Cache to Eagle” that showcases these special contributions. A Boy Scout can find three of these "Cache to Eagle" caches to satisfy requirement 8(a) for the new Geocaching Merit Badge.

This particular 2009 Eagle Scout project is was the construction of a reader board and fenced pathway to the amphitheatre in the Kitsap Memorial State Park, in Poulsbo, WA by Reuben Schleiger of Troop 1506 in Tracyton, WA. The Charter is Peace Lutheran Church in Bremerton.

Kitsap Memorial State Park is a 58-acre camping park with 1,797 feet of saltwater shoreline on the Kitsap Peninsula on Hood Canal. Grassy playfields and children's play equipment, a saltwater beach with tide pools and shellfish harvesting opportunities are highlights of this park.

The cache itself is placed in an area where you do not have to create a “geotrail”. Please be stealthy and respectful of the non-cachers nearby. This is a daylight hours only cache.

  1. The geocache may be placed on Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission managed property only by written permission from the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.
  2. The following items shall not be placed in the geocache: Food items; illegal substances; medications; personal hygiene products, pornographic materials; inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials or weapons of any type. Log books are required for each cache and are to be provided by the owner of the cache.
  3. It is the visitor’s responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to State Parks areas.
  4. Report any incident, problem, or violation to State Parks staff.

Over its first 100 years, Scouting has provided millions of hours of service to communities across America. For our 100th Anniversary, we’re celebrating that legacy with special service opportunities through “A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference.” To learn more, visit 100 Years of Scouting.
