This is an official National Park Service Earthcache within Black
Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Parking is available in
designated spaces and the cache can be reached by using an
established trail. Altitude at this cache is above 7700'.
Welcome to the home of dragons, Peregrine falcons, and rock
climbers alike. Towering 2,250 feet above the river, this monolith
earns the titles of Colorado's tallest cliff and toughest rock
climbs. Take a moment to listen to the gentle roar of the river,
bask in the canyon breeze, and admire the spectacular pegmatite
dikes before you. These pegmatite dikes were once molten rock,
which were squeezed up into the surrounding rock cracks. Here they
cooled slowly forming large crystals. Can you see two horizontal
dragons? Some visitors are lucky enough to spot falcons or Golden
eagles gracefully gliding along the currents below this viewpoint.
As you leave, be sure to take note of the colorful wildflowers and
ancient juniper trees bordering the path. Read the exhibits here to
