Die Steinerne Rose ist ein in Europa einzigartiges Naturdenkmal. Sie besteht aus einer Diabasformation, die im Mittleren Devon, also vor ca. 400 Millionen Jahren, als Ganggestein entstanden ist. Dieses Gestein zerfällt hier bei seiner Verwitterung in konzentrische Schalen (Desquamation) und erhielt dadurch die Form einer aufblühenden Rosenknospe. Die Steinerne Rose befindet sich ca. 700 m nördlich von Kloster, einem Ortsteil der Stadt Saalburg-Ebersdorf im Saale-Orla-Kreis in Thüringen, an der Reußischen Fürstenstraße (L 1095) direkt rechts vor der Brücke über die ehemalige Eisenbahnstrecke Schleiz-Saalburg.
Des Weiteren „blühen“ mehrere kleinere Steinrosen am Schlossfelsen in Ronneburg (Thüringen).
Euer Mobil, so es nicht mit Schweiß getrieben ist, könnt Ihr in unmittelbarer Nähe abstellen.

The stone rose is a natural monument unique in Europe. She exists of a Diabasformation which has originated in middle Devon, so before approx. 400 million years, as a lode rock. This rock disintegrates here with his decomposition into concentric bowls (Desquamation) and thereby received the form of a blossoming rose bud. The stone rose is approx. 700 m to the north of Cloister, a district of the city Saalburg-Ebersdorf in the Saale- Orla- Circle in Thuringia, to the Rheusischen Fürstenstrasse (L 1095) directly on the right before the bridge above the former railroad line Schleiz-Saalburg. Besides „ blossom “ several smaller stone roses in the castle rock in Ronneburg (Thuringia).
