Amstelkwartier is een stadsdeel in opkomst. Aan de oever in het nieuwe park Somerlust heb je het mooiste uitzicht van het Amstelkwartier.
Met name met mooi weer is het hier gezellig druk met recreanten, zwemmers, kanoërs, bootjes, hardlopers, fietsers, wandelaars en vogels.
Loop eens naar het midden van het grote grasveld en kijk richting het water. Rechts van je is een haven met havengebouw/horecagelegenheid gerealiseerd in 2017.
Rechts achter je zie je een oud gebouwtje. Dit is gerenoveerd en uitgebouwd tot een horecagelegenheid.
Achter je zie je vier afwijkende appartementencomplexen. Links daarvan aan de Spaklerweg komt nog een 70 meter hoge woontoren van hout: HAUT.
Als je over het fietspad naar het witte ophaalbruggetje loopt passeer je de oude ingenieurswoning van de Zuidergasfabriek.
De Ingenieurswoning is tot stand gekomen in de periode 1907-1913 als onderdeel van de gemeentelijke Zuidergasfabriek. Tot midden jaren '60 woonden hier verschillende directeuren met hun families. En vlak na de oorlog haalde de toenmalige directeursfamilie vele kunstenaars en musici in huis, er moest tenslotte zuinig met woonruimte worden omgegaan!
In 1965 werd de Zuidergasfabriek overbodig door de overschakeling van kolengas op aardgas en werden andere functies aan het terrein toegevoegd. Het grootste deel van het voormalige gasfabrieksterrein is vervolgens in 1989 in gebruik genomen door het Gemeentelijk Energiebedrijf. De Ingenieurswoning bleef in eigendom van de gemeente Amsterdam en is tot 2008 bewoond geweest door kunstenaar Joost van Roojen. Bron: http://thuisaandeamstel.nl/geschiedenis/

This cache does nog exist because the case is so interesting but because of the surroundings.
Amstelkwartier is a rising district. On the shore in the new park Somer Lust you have the best view of Amstelkwartier.
Especially with good weather it is pleasantly crowded with recreating people, swimmers, canoeists, boats, runners, cyclists, hikers and bird.
Walk to the middle of the large field and look towards the water. To your right is a harbour where a port building / catering facility has been constructed in 2017.
Right behind you see an old building. This has been renovated and expanded into a catering facility.
Behind you can see four different apartment complexes. Left of those complexes (near the Spaklerweg) a 70 meter high tower of wood will rise: HAUT.
If you follow the route to the south to the white drawbridge you pass the old ´engineer's house´ from the Municipal Southern gas factory.
The engineers Property is realized in the period 1907/1913 as part of the Southern gas factory. Until the mid 60´s several directors with their families lived here. And immediately after the war, the director family that lived there took many artists and musicians in the house while housingspace was rare.
In 1965 the factory was no longer needed by the switch from coal gas to natural gas. Because of that other features were added to the site. The bulk of the former factory was subsequently commissioned in 1989 by the Municipal Energy Company.
