The Cache Across America Series: This is a series of caches that will take you on a caching tour of the entire United States. One cache is hidden in each of the 50 states. These caches each contain a numeric clue that will lead you to one final cache located in our nation's capital upon completion of the series.

About this cache: The famous Natchez Trace Parkway is a three-state scenic and historic pleasure drive of 444 miles from Natchez, Mississippi through northwest Alabama and ending near Nashville, Tennessee. The Natchez Trace was the premier highway of the early 1800s. It is part of the National Park System and as such, physical caches are not allowed.

This cache is in Tishomingo State Park. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Tishomingo State Park is steeped in history and scenic beauty. Archaeological excavations confirm the presence of Paleo Indians in the area now encompassed by the park as early as 7000 B.C.; the park takes its name from the leader of the Chickasaw nation, Chief Tishomingo. The Natchez Trace runs directly through the park. Today's visitors to Tishomingo State Park discover the same timeless natural beauty that enchanted the Indians centuries ago. Tishomingo offers a unique landscape of massive rock formations and fern-filled crevices found nowhere else in Mississippi. Massive boulders blanketed in moss dot the hillsides, and colorful wildflowers border trails once walked by Native Americans.

The cache is off the red flagged trail near the office. It is about .25 mile round trip from closest parking near the office. The rocks are steep in places and the footbridge does not have a railing. You might consider walking with a hiking stick and watch your children around the drop-offs. If you could see this cache, you could probably almost reach it and not leave the trail. It is a clear Tupperware-type container with a white top, labeled as a geocache. The code is on the underside of the lid and in the log book in two places.

Logging Requirements: Enjoy this cache as you would any other. If you are searching this cache as a participant in the Cache Across America series, please post a photo of yourself or a member of your group with the cache in your online log. If you for some reason are unable to meet the photo requirement, please make alternate arrangements to verify your find with the individual cache owner. There is no photo requirement for non-challenge participants.
