St. James the Less Cemetery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TeamMagicParrot: Archiving this one. It's too close to a residential neighborhood and had to replace it twice since it snows bad here. Nice while it lasted. Thanks to everyone who found it.

Geocache Description:

Quick cache near St. James the Less Cemetery, in Scarsale, NY.

Small tupperware style container.

Please do not disturb the stone wall nearby- the cache is not in the wall!

Congrats to afkenner on FTF!

Parking can be found on Autenreith Road, and go up to Church Lane to retrieve the cache. This is the better way to retrieve the cache. I would not reccomend to attempt to retrieve it from inside the graveyard, although please feel free to explore the graveyard and it's history

This is a quick, probably easy small cache near St James the Less Cemetery.

This cache is not in the stone wall! It is in two ziploc bags, and replace them to prevent wet logs or damage to the cache.
One of the major reasons I picked this area, is because this is the church that I attend, and there is a lot of history in this graveyard.

There are many tombs of 18th century families, graves of war veterans from the area, as well as some unmarked graves of 18th century slaves.

One of the most interesting people who is buried here is Scarsdale Jack- see related web page above the coordinates.

He was born in 1913, was credited with 7 air-to-air victories, and was known for being an amazing pilot and marksman. He won many battles against the Japanese in World War II, but died in a suprise attack on Chiang Mai Province of Thailand, which was used as a base for the Japanese to transport provisions and weapons to nearby Burma. This battle was regarded as the "Payback of Pearl Harbor"

He was buried back here in Scarsdale.

Every year, usually around the weekend of Halloween, many members of the congregation lead a Graveyard Tour, giving history of many of the famous people who lived and died, or are buried in these cemeteries. It is flashlight lit, and there are people beside the graves, acting as the people who rest there. It's a very interesting tour!

Good luck and enjoy the cemetery if you choose to look around, and the cache!
