When we arrived here, we wondered why there
had been a lookout here. There is no obvious view, although
it's possible there was one at one time across the road from
the site, now obscured by trees.
Never the less, there was a lookout here at one time, at the
relatively low elevation of 656'. It was first built in 1937 by the
Washington Division of Forestry. At that time, this lookout was a
wooden tower with the whopping height of 12'. In 1942, it was
replaced with another wooden tower, this time 30' in height with an
8x8 cabin. It was destroyed in 1963.
Not much remains here now . . . a clearing, a benchmark, and a
nearby trail or road.
About This Cache:
- This cache is on publicly accessible Weyerhaeuser land. Access
is granted to the public only during weekends and only during
daylight hours.
- If you visit during berry seasons, be aware that Round Up
and/or other similar herbicides are used in this area on both sides
of the roads up to 25' away. It is not recommended that you eat
berries that grow close to the road.
- There are good dirt roads all the way to the lookout site.
- You are searching for a small sized Lock 'n' Lock in a nylon
camo bag placed across the road from the lookout site.
- Please, there is no need to even touch the moss. It is not in
the top or under the moss.
- There is a worthwhile FTF prize.
- If you log benchmarks, there is one in the clearing. It is well
marked and easily found.
