Tämä kätkö tutustuttaa sinut suureen avosuohon, Laajansuohon. Se on aapasuo, jonka pinta-ala on noin 60 hehtaaria. Suon vedet kulkeutuvat Laajanjokeen ja siitä Miesjoen kautta Oulunjärveen. Täällä saattaa tavata keväisin teeriä ja kurkia, myöhemmin kahlaajia ja muita suolla viihtyviä lintuja.
Suo on varsin vetinen ja sillä piilee petollisia suonsilmäkkeitä, joten järkevin reitti kätkölle on kulkea junaradan vartta pitkin "Kapeatsärkät"-nimiselle harjumuodostelmalle ja jatkaa sitä pitkin perille. Näin välttyy ikävältä rämpimiseltä ja mahdollisilta silmäkkeisiin tippumisilta. Tai sitten voi mennä mistä haluaa. Kannattaa kuitenkin katsoa mihin astuu.

This cache introduces you to big open bog : Laajansuo (wide bog). It is minerotrophic bog whose area is over 60 hectares. The waters from bog flow to river Laajanjoki and from there to river Miesjoki and further to lake Oulunjärvi. Here you may encounter black grouses and cranes, later shorebirds and other swamp birds.
The bog is quite watery and it hides deceptive quagmires, so the most wise route to the cache goes along the side of the railroad and further via a ridge called "Kapeatsärkät" (Narrow banks) to the final location. This way you avoid unpleasant wading and getting stuck in the quagmires. Or you can just go where you like. It is still wise to keep eyes open and feet in boots.
If you hear shooting while caching, don't be scared: It comes from nearby shooting range.
