Geocache Description:

Abby is a rescue dog.  A high-energy mutt who goes stir crazy if she doesn't get long walks on a regular basis.  We'd been hiking the same trails at the State Parks for a while, which had gotten boring for both of us.  I took up geocaching to make the walks more interesting for me, and Abby seems to enjoy the new sights and smells.  I encourage you to bring your dog(s) along for this walk.

Abby’s cache has all the elements that I enjoy in a geocache hike.  First of all, there is convenient parking for monster trucks.  The horseman’s parking lot is a vast gravel expanse with ample parking for vehicles of all sizes.  Before you set out on your hike, I encourage you to peruse the large map board and plot your course.

Second, the hike is long enough and strenuous enough to tire out high-energy dogs, without taking on the quality of a quest or an odyssey for humans.  The trail will start as an old road with pavement largely intact, but just when you think it’s too easy, you will encounter muddy conditions that only equestrian trails can provide.  My suggestion is to wear some rubber boots.  If you set a good pace and choose your route wisely, it's about 1.5 hours from the parking lot to GZ and back.

Third, the hide should be easy enough.  You will be looking for a medium sized ammo can, not some micro mini that will require a search party to find.  If you’ve found a few caches in the woods before, it should be really obvious.  If you can’t find it, check my clue for blatant spoiler information.

Lastly, I like to think I’ve provided some good swag here.  Although I never take anything from caches, it still thrills me when on rare occasions I open a container and see lots of quality prizes.  This won’t be a long exhausting hike only to sign a little slip of paper.

This cache contains the official log book with a pen.  For those into that letterbox thing, there is a paw print stamp, and an ink pad for you to use.

As for the swag, First to Find gets a 6 in 1 multi tool.  All others may help themselves to a wide variety of items, so long as they leave something of roughly equal value.  At the time this cache was installed, I included toys for dogs and children of all ages.  Being the thoughtful outdoorsman that I am, there is also an emergency rain poncho, and old-school magnetic compass.

Epilogue:  This geocache was placed with the expressed written consent of East Fork State Park and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
