Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the old Boeing farm. This should be a quick P&G in a location that you might expect it to be in. Parking is available in a small lot right next to the cache. Hint it a total give away to any cacher that has been at it for very long.

In 1942 William and Bertha Boeing moved to a 1,000 acre farm near Fall City. The property and luxurious farm house was purchased from John F. Duthie. Just to clarify this is Boeing as in the airplane company, and Duthie as in the person Duthie Hill is named after.

At first the Boeing farm raised Hereford, but later raised Black Angus and Sheep. At one point the farm boasted over 500 head of cattle. During the early 1950's Boeing built the first grass dehydrating plant, because he wanted his cows to have the best feed possible all year round.

Some interesting notes about William Boeing. He was known for walking with a cane, however he did not need a cane to walk. Also he had a pekingese dog..... Named General Motors. William Boeing passed away on September 28th 1956. And this is when the Boeing farm started to change.

While the Boeing company retained ownership of the land, it was just a few years after his death that the farm was renamed Aldarra farms. It was also at that time that the farm basically stopped farming in the traditional sense. It became a place for the Boeing company employees. For example if you worked for boeing at that time, and you wanted to keep a horse, this would have been the place to keep it. By the early 1960's the boeing family house was lived in by the farm caretakers. The farm completely closed down by the mid 1970's and the back and upper portions were sold off. While the front portion along highway 202 were leased out to various people for farm use. The front portion continued to be used as a farm until sometime in the mid 1990's, when it to was sold off to become a golf course.

Photo of the Old Boeing Farm in 1992, taken by Moun10Bike. This photo would have been of the last cows to live on that land.

By 1998 the Aldarra Golf course was being built, which now occupies most of the middle and all but the very front portion of the land. The Boeing family house now sits empty, and unused.

From the cache if you drive to the Fall City - Redmond road and turn left towards Redmond, immediately on your left you will see an big abandoned open field, this is all that is left undeveloped from the boeing farm. Also you might notice a small bridge out there, that was one of the original roads into the farm.

In researching the property a bit, I find it curious that some of the open front portion of the fields is owed by a company called Boeing Aldarra trust LLC. So it is possible that Boeing still owns some of the remaining undeveloped land.

Congratulations goes to Pie Rats for the first to find!!!!
