About 1/4 mile east of here is the historic Fort Harker. Fort Harker was an active military installation of the United States Army from 1866 to 1872. Famous generals such as General George Armstong Custer was in command here. There are several structures that are preserved today at this fort that were used during the years 1866 to 1872 when this fort was active.
