Geocache Description:

Ramapo's DuPont Ruins

I put Ramapo’s cache back. It was mrsmales very first cache and I used it as a part of my Ghost of DuPont wherigo, plus it was just too good to let it go. So here is Ramapo’s description [my words]:
“Come explore some ruins left from buildings that were once part of the DuPont explosives plant and find a cache too! It's a pretty easy walk but then a bit of a climb.
This cache is located in the newest part of Ramapo State Forest. It was deeded to the State [in 2005] as part of a settlement concerning groundwater contamination that resulted from the long closed, DuPont explosive manufacturing activities.
The cache is [a large pill container, painted green]. The shortest access to it is from Backbeach but the ambitious hiker can come in from the eastern entrances. It is generally an easy walk but getting to the cache itself involves some elevation changes.
Please be very careful if the area is wet or icy. The rocks can be slippery and there are some big drops nearby.
Be sure to leave plenty of time to explore the area. There are a number of interesting ruins nearby. I believe some are leftover bunkers once used to store explosives. If you've ever wondered what is beneath the Rt. 287 bridge, then just follow your ears as it is just a short walk.
If you Google DuPont and Wanaque, you'll come up with some interesting web articles about the area.”
